The last time we featured a watch on AutoFun Philippines, it was Casio’s homage to the Initial D and MF Ghost manga.
The Japanese watchmaker is at it again with the Casio EDIFICE Honda Racing Red Edition. It commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Suzuka Circuit’s establishment by Honda.
The Suzuka International Racing Course, as Formula 1 fans know, is a 5.8-km FIA Grade 1 race track in Suzuka, Japan. This is where the Formula One Japanese Grand Prix has been held since 2009. It started life as a Honda test track in 1962 and continues to be operated by the Honda Motor Company.
The special-edition watch is based on the EDIFICE SOSPENSIONE EQB-2000, which is part of Casio’s motorsports line-up.
Honda paint, Alcantara strap
Casio said the EDIFICE Honda Racing Red Edition has an original face design with a large “X” that uses the same genuine paint in Honda’s red emblems.
The logo of the Honda Racing Corporation, which spearheads the Japanese carmaker’s motorsports activities, is also on the face, which includes inset solar panels to help power the watch.
A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects this with an anti-reflective coating on the inside surface.
The wristband may feel familiar for those who own a Honda Civic Type R. It’s made of the same Alcantara material used in Type R cabins, with black on the outside and red on the inside.
Finally, the watch case has a four-arm arrangement to imitate a Formula 1 car’s suspension. Honda has a storied career in F1 as an engine manufacturer and a works team.
Special engraving, smartphone integration
Look at the back of the casing, and you’ll find something rather neat.
Casio engraved a special logo to mark Suzuka Circuit’s 60th anniversary, along with a miniature track layout.
And because it’s a motorsport watch, it can also be used to time your laps, whether in Suzuka or any other track.
Much like several of Casio’s modern watches, there is Bluetooth smartphone integration for automatic time adjustment, stopwatch data transfer, and even a phone finder.
All Casio EDIFICE Honda Racing Red Edition watches come in a special box with the HRC and Suzuka anniversary logos.
