Toyota has won in Le Mans for the fifth time the other weekend, and they absolutely dominate the endurance racing scene. In the Philippines, typical Toyota lovers might be wanting to emulate their race idols by driving their favorite Toyota car. Now honestly, you can't do this in a Wigo, but you can probably feel closer if you drive a Toyota 86.

Now a Toyota 86 is not a very common road car like the Vios which is seen everywhere. I mean EVERYWHERE. This is not particularly a bad thing though, because this is a testament to the reliability that the car brand offers. (Again, Le Mans level of reliability. In the Philippines taxis can almost run their own sort of endurance races every day and most taxis are Toyotas.)

So there is no doubt that if you want to try and use the Toyota 86 as a daily driver, it will be reliable and tough to the beatings of the daily grind. (Yes, I know the ride height and the potholes in our city roads do not align to this thought experiment but bear with me please.) We just want to know, if ever you plan to use the Toyota 86 as a daily, how fuel efficient can it be?

On the one hand, let's look at the 86's engine. It has a D-4S (Direct-Injection 4-Stroke Gasoline Engine) Naturally Aspirated 4-Cylinder Boxer 16-Valve DOHC engine paired 6-Speed automatic transmission which you can excitingly shift through paddles. It has a maximum output of 200 PS and a maximum torque of 205 Newton meters. His of course is more output than your typical daily Toyota, but that's what we are looking for here.

So, fuel economy figures? Different user reviews were given to a website called oneshift.com where Toyota 86 users from all over give their driving experience feedback. The results of their feedback are the following. The urban drive is about 9.7 liters of fuel consumed per 100 kilometers of running. The “extra urban” is about 5 liters per 100 kilometers. Mixed figures show about 7 liters per 100 kilometers. Now this is from all over, and the traffic congestion the Philippines produces is one of the best in the world, so fuel economy figures here in the country might be a little, teeny-tiny worse. This should make you think twice of using the 86 as a daily. Perhaps buy it and bring it to track as much as you could. That is the best-case scenario.
