This is it, the brand-new 2021 Geely Emgrand. Codenamed Geely SS11, the all-new Geely Emgrand made its debut in China late last month, before going on sale later this year.
The all-new Geely Emgrand is developed on the BMA platform – the very same platform that is the basis for the Geely Binyue (Proton X50 to us) and Geely Binrui sedan.
However, with the Geely Emgrand being a budget-oriented model, it won’t be getting a turbocharged engine; instead, it is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine that does 114 PS and 147 Nm, mated to a CVT-type automatic transmission.
Visually, the all-new Geely Emgrand adopts Geely’s latest design language, encompassing Geely’s signature front grille with vertical slats, while the sides of the new Emgrand is clean and simple with a strong character line flowing from the front to the rear.
Moving towards the rear-end, both tail lights are connected via a trim piece with the Geely branding emblazoned across. The rear bumper also gets a faux rear diffuser with a centrally-mounted rear fog light.
Despite being a budget sedan, the interior of the all-new Geely Emgrand looks properly upmarket. A free-standing 10.25-inch infotainment system takes centre stage, which is powered by Geely’s GKUI software.
Below that are three horizontal slats, with the air-conditioning vents cleverly hidden within. Commonly-used air-cond controls and the engine push start button are placed below the vents.
It also gets a full-digital instrument cluster, soft touch materials, a 360-degree view monitor, and a sunroof. The only omission, according to Chinese portals, is telescopic steering adjustment.
Dimension-wise, the new Geely Emgrand is 4,638 mm long, 1,820 mm wide, and 1,460 mm tall. Its wheelbase is 2,650 mm.

What about Malaysia?
Closer to home, Funtasticko reported that Proton could be developing a new sedan based on the all-new Geely Emgrand.
Proton Persona replacement it may not be, as Proton will be releasing a new and improved Persona soon. Instead, the Emgrand could be positioned above the Persona.
That being said, don’t expect the SS11-based sedan to be launched so soon, as Proton is currently preoccupied with development work for the upcoming Geely Haoyue (could be called Proton X90).
