The Keeway Sip 125 gives a fresh spin on what motorcycling is all about. Funky, stylish, modern and big-time fun are the names of the game with Keeway’s amazingly playful SIP 125 scooter. One look at it and you immediately want to jump on and ride. Covered by swoopy bodywork and crazy color schemes, the SIP 125 is all about moving – to work, to the store, to a party, wherever you need to go. Its upswept tail end and compact dimensions compliment its peppy, easy-going nature. It does, however, come in limited color options.

There are three colors of the Keeway Sip 125 available in the Philippines, black, bule and pink.

The SIP 125’s air-cooled, single-cylinder four-stroke engine/drive unit is reliable, surprisingly powerful and very easy to use, and pumps out plenty of smooth power. It churns out a modest 6 kW of power at 7,500 rpm and 9 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. It might not look much on paper but it is adequate to get the job done. Since the SIP 125 will cater to mostly novice riders, the engine is also mated to a automatic transmission (CVT) for ease of usage.

A single-shock system at the back and a modern telescopic fork up front give the SIP a comfy and controlled ride, which is perfect for city or country runs. With a plush, two-person saddle, a roomy riding position, wide mirrors and low-vibration ride, the SIP 125 is easy to ride and plenty comfortable.

With a 95-kilogram weight, flicking it around town would be a breeze. Riding the SIP 125 would be easy for riders of all sizes. The 755mm seat height is also friendly to those who are short in the in seams. Other than the generous floorboard, the SIP 125 sports a pair of rear step boards to allow the rider to assume a sporty stance during spirited riding. A separate pair of foldable passenger foot pegs are also fitted for the comfort and convenience of the pillion.

The seating arrangement, while good enough for short distance rides, might not offer the best comfort for long distance touring for two.

Engine

I an age of fuel injection, the SIP 125’s carburetor system is somewhat of a novelty. Because of this, one might expect a slightly higher fuel consumption for the SIP 125 compared to its competitors. Its 4.9-liter tank capacity, though, makes up for it as it will at least help put more distance in between fill ups.  

With grippy street-oriented tires on lightweight cast-alloy wheels, along with a modern disc brake up front (and a drum unit in back), the SIP 125 handles and stops amazingly well for a scooter. This set up is more than enough for a scooter of this size.

The Keeway Sip 125 is an excellent starter bike for the young and active rider. It does seem wanting when it comes to features but it makes up for it with tons of fun factor. It offers no frills, care-free riding to those who are just looking to own an affordable mode of personal transportation. The SIP 125’s basic features liberate the rider of the worries of maintenance, allowing him the luxury of worry-free ownership.

While it does have a relatively simple styling, the SIP 125 has some subtle styling cues which makes it an eye-catcher. At Php, 54,800, the SIP 125 is well within the budget of a wide range of buyers.
